Yakiniku Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbsp sake (optional)

  • 2 Tbsp mirin

  • 1 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp rice vinegar

  • 3 Tbsp soy sauce

  • 1/2 tsp miso

  • 1/4 tsp katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)

  • 1/8 Fuji apple (Any red apple would do)

  • 2 tsp toasted white sesame seeds


DIRECTIONS

  1. In a bowl, add the sake, mirin, sugar, rice vinegar, soy sauce, miso, katsuobushi, and simmer for 11 minutes. Mix to combine, then strain into a bowl with a lid.

  2. Add the sesame seeds and grated apple to the sauce and mix well to incorporate and cover.

  3. Place the sauce in the fridge to for 1 hour before using or overnight in the refrigerator if possible, so the flavors can come together. Enjoy!
