Masala Chai

Makes 2


Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 3 tsp sugar

  • 2 tsp black tea granules

Spices:

  • 2 whole cloves

  • 2 green cardamom

  • 1/2-inch cinnamon stick

  • 1 star anise

  • 4 whole black pepper

  • pinch of nutmeg


Directions:

  1. Using a food processor or mortar and pestle, take all of the ingredients under the spices ingredients except the nutmeg. Crush the spices to a coarse powder. Place the powder in a small plate.

  2. Take the spices and add it to a pot of water. To this, add the tea granules. Let it boil for 2 minutes over a medium heat.

  3. Pour in 1 cup milk to the boiling tea decoction. Add a pinch of nutmeg at this stage. Let the tea boil for 2-3 minutes over medium heat.

  4. Add the sugar (to taste). Mix and let it boil. Once it started to boil, remove from the stove.

  5. Strain the tea using a strainer. Serve and enjoy!


*Note: to make it stronger, add more tea
