Hodugwaja- Walnut Cakes

  • 1 1/4 cup AP flour

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 1/4 tsp active dry yeast

  • 1/4 tsp sugar

  • 3 tbsp warm water

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • Walnut flavoring (optional)

  • 1/3 cup +1 tablespoon milk


  • 1/2 cup red bean paste (buy from the store or make it at home)


  1. Mix the warm water, yeast, & sugar in a bowl. Let stand 10 minutes.

  2. Sieve the flour into a bowl. Add salt, milk, & yeast water & mix well. Cover with a warm damp towel & let stand in a warm place for three hours.

  3. Separate the dough into 10 portions. Flatten the dough on waxed paper into a circular shape. Place one slightly rounded teaspoon of the filling in the center and seal the dough around the filling. Roll slightly to form a round ball.

  4. Pre-Heat oven to 350°.

  5. Grease a cookie sheet or muffin pan. Place the dough balls about 1 1/2 inches apart on the cookie sheet & bake for 13 to 17 minutes (until golden brown). Serve warm. Enjoy!
