Bacon Mochi Skewers

Prep time: 5 min

Cooking time: 10 min

Total time: 15 min

Servings: 8+ skewers

Ingredients:

  • 1 pack kirimochi

  • 1 packet of bacon

  • 1 pack cherry tomatoes

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce

  • 2 tbsp mirin

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar

  • skewers

Directions:

  1. Pre-soak the wooden skewers in water to avoid burning the skewers.

  2. Cut the mochi into small, rectangular pieces. Clean your cherry tomatoes.

  3. Wrap the bacon around the mochi, making sure to cover the mochi completely, and impale it on a skewer followed by your tomato. Continue this pattern.

  4. Place the soy sauce, brown sugar, and mirin in a small bowl and mix until completely combined and sugar is dissolved, then set aside.

  5. Grill over coals, in a toaster oven, electric griller, or pan sear for 5 minutes on each side, until golden brown and completely cooked. Drizzle or brush your sauce mixture over the skewers around the last cooking minute, so it glazes the skewers. Enjoy!

Note: The mochi used for this recipe is a firm mochi that comes in small blocks. It's definitely made for cooking and can't be eaten right out of the bag like you would with sweet mochi. It almost has a cheese consistency when cooked.
